Permanent Commission for composing the Biographic Dictionary of Ukrainian public figures (1919–1933): modern context

Abstract: The article is dedicated to the theoretical and methodological heritage of thePermanent Commission for composing the Biographic Dictionary of Ukrainianpublic figures, established in 1919 by the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. Theproject of creation of the Ukrainian Biographical Dictionary has become sociallysignificant and has become an innovation of national culture. The consensus wasemphasized between the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and the patriotic scientificcommunity, which resulted in the initiation of a scientific historical and biographicalreference background, the formation of its theoretical, methodologicaland scientific-organizational foundations.The very phenomenon of the Biographical Commission, its creation and workwithin the UAS consist in understanding and updating of paradigm of its scientific,methodological and institutional and organizational principles and experiencegained. He attests the continuity of the established traditions in contemporaryhistorical and biographical studies. Change of information paradigms and inquiriesof the society, transformation of ideas about reference biographic and biobibliographicscience, transition from printed to electronic biographic informationresources on the example of the Permanent Commission for composing the Biographic Dictionary of Ukrainian public figures testifies of continuous cooperationof the traditional and innovative.
