Ukrainian culture in Dmytro Buchynsky’s creative workAbstract: The article is devoted to the study of the life path and contribution to the Ukrainian cultural studies of the representative of the third (post-war) wave of Ukrainian emigration in Spain, Dmytro Buchynsky (1913-1963). D. Buchynsky’s main achievement was his great, even impressive, intellectual work. In the 1950s and early 1960s, he published about 1,500 articles, 200 of which were in Spanish. The geography of periodicals in which the scientist’s articles appeared is so extensive that it is possible to study the history of the Ukrainian diaspora press. The leading theme of D. Buchynsky’s works was his main branch: literary studies. All contemporaries recognized the main merits of D. Buchynsky that during his short life he managed to establish very extensive contacts in the scientific and social circles. Four exhibitions organized by D. Buchynsky in Madrid, where Ukrainian books, press and stamps were exhibited, contributed to the acquaintance of Spaniards with Ukrainian culture. It is concluded that D. Buchynsky belonged to the nationalist, Christian-conservative trend of Ukrainian thought and sociallife, which dominated in the second half of the twentieth century. in the Ukrainianemigration. His main achievement was that in the cohort of numerous talentedand outstanding figures of the Ukrainian emigration, he turned into a distinctive, original thinker. This was primarily due to the Spanish cultural soil, on which asignificant part of his life took place. The scientist tried to combine the Christian worldview with the tasks of educating a militaristic, heroic, resolute Ukrainian, who, in order to protect his interests, can resort to actions that may be incompatible with religious morality. The complex current Ukrainian realities actualizes this problem. Keywords: D. Buchynsky, Ukrainians in Spain, cultural studies, Christian conservatism, Ukrainian nationalism.
