Abstract: The goal of the work. To investigate the library activities of Kateryna Mykolayivna Melnyk-Antonovych, in particular as the head of the library of the historical and philological department of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. Also, to consider the main stages of functioning of the library of the historicaland philological department of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. Research methodology. It is based on the principles of historicity, objectivity, as well as ongeneral historical methods namely, chronological, comparative, source, archivaland bibliographic analyses. The scientific novelty of the work is the elucidationof little-known facts from the biography of Kateryna Mykolayivna, in particularas a personal bibliographer of the founder of the Kyiv historical school Volodymyr Bonifatiyovych Antonovych, compiler of his scientific works and systema tizerof his personal book collection. The facts testifying to the leading role of K. M. Melnyk-Antonovych in the formation of the library of the historical and philological department of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences are noted. The source of this book collection was the library of prof. V. B. Antonovich. The library has operated for more than ten years as one of the largest historical librariesin Kyiv, its funds included personal libraries of such famous historians asV. S. Ikonnikov and V. L. Modzalevsky. Unfortunately, due to ideological prohibitions of the Soviet era, in the 30s of the twentieth century the library of the historical and philological department has not preserved its integrity and the searchfor books today is quite a complex process. Books from the disbanded book collection can be found by the presence of the seal “Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. Historical and Philological Department. Library”.
