Formation of the image of leader of Spain F. Franko in the Ukrainian intellectual tradition of the 20th century

Section: On the experience of domestic biographi

Abstract: The goal of this study is to analyze the views of the Ukrainian intellectualelite in the context of general political changes in Europe on the peculiarities of the most prominent and prominent political leader of Spain in the twentieth century – Francisco Franco, understanding the phenomenon of perception at the junction of different ideologies and life experiences. The research methodology basedon the integrated use of general scientific methods of analysis and synthesis, generalization, explanation, systematization and classification and empirical – observation, description and comparison. The scientific novelty of the article lies int he first in historiography formulation of the topic of the existence of the Ukrainian tradition of understanding the phenomenon of F. Franko, systematization of opinions about it by Ukrainian intellectuals. Various forms of understanding the activities, views, personal traits, and historical significance of the Spanish leader F. Franco have been studied. Conclusions. Formation of the image of the politicalleader of Spain F. Franco in the ХХ century. If in the USSR under communist occupation this image cannot be considered as a kind of Ukrainian and in generalto claim the existence of a purely Ukrainian phenomenon of the image of F. Franco, in the second case it is about the formation and circulation of independent traditions. However, this tradition looks fragmentary and not fully formed, and some opinions are expressed only on occasion. On the other hand, some texts had a completely complete form of biographical essays. In the 1930s, the image began to take shape primarily in the works of the Heralds, united around D. Dontsov. F. Franco paid great attention to the Argentine Ukrainian community. In the 1950s and early 1970s, Franco’s image did not change significantly – most Ukrainian figures saw him as a fighter against the threat of communism, the last European leader to unite them mentally with the heroic era of the 1930s and1940s. The final, third, stage began after the death of F. Franco in 1975.
