Research methodology. In the article, we use descriptive and hermeneutic methods, theoretical analysis and synthesis, which made possible the systematization and generalization of the material, the comprehensiveness of its general characteristics. The scientific novelty of the work consists in the return to the national pantheon of the figure of M. I. Storozhenko based on the analysis of memories of this extraordinary personality, who managed to preserve his national identity outside his homeland, which will contribute to the inclusion of his legacy in the context of Ukrainian science and culture. Conclusions. It is emphasized that the memories of contemporaries are an important part of the memoir literature about M. I. Storozhenko, along with jubilee materials, obituaries and memorial articles. The national and cultural identity of M. I. Storozhenko, which appeared in the coverage of his biographers in the memoirs, was manifested in external (portrait, behavioral and linguistic components) and internal components (cognitive – he had thorough knowledge in the field of Ukrainian history, literature and culture; psycho-sociocultural – consciously perceived and preserved the mental norms, moral values, customs and ideals of a Ukrainian; emotional – in the awareness of belonging to the Ukrainian people, in self-respect, national dignity, cordocentrism, love for one’s ancestral roots and Ukraine, the desire to be useful to it, the absence of an inferiority complex). The memories of his contemporaries, in which the national and cultural components of M. I. Storozhenko’s identity are reproduced, are an important source for his biography as an outstanding Ukrainian whose name should be inscribed in the context of the Ukrainian cultural space.
