Biography as a digital communication

Section: Theory and methodology of modern biography

Abstract: The purpose of the work is to study the transformation of methods of research and compilation of (auto)biography as a result of the development of digital communications, in particular, the mass spread of social networks, the emergence of the phenomenon of digital biography, deepening the concept of biographical learning and expanding the range of possibilities for its implementation in education. The research methodology is based on modern ideas about the philosophy of education, philosophical anthropology, on the principles of objectivity, development, analysis and synthesis, the unity of the general and the individual, the connection between theory and practice. The main applied research methods are the method of transdisciplinary study of biography and components of meta-analysis. The comparative method and the historical-genetic method in combination with semantic analysis were also used to determine the foundations of the conceptualization of biographical learning. Scientific novelty of the work. The research is marked by the novelty of using the method of communicative biography in domestic biography and deepening the methodology of biographical teaching in pedagogical science. For the first time, the biography of a person is considered as a digital communication, the potential of the digital biography in the practice of biographical education is substantiated. The theory of communicative biography gained further development as a methodology for analyzing the individual trajectory of human life. Conclusions. It is established that the emergence of new formats of social relations, such as the digital person and the digital citizen, leads to the emergence of a new genre of biography – digital communicative biography and the use of the method of researching an individual’s biography taking into account his "digital footprint". It is argued that digital communication becomes a system-creating factor of a person’s biography, its main determining factor. The article provides a brief description of modern large-scale and local Ukrainian electronic biography projects, foreign experience of digital representation of biography. The constructiveness of projects on creating a digital biography for learning about a person’s biography, the formation and development of biographical skills as a key modern competence, in particular within the frame work of biographical learning has been proven.
