Pages of Viktor Petrov’s (Domontovych’s) (auto)biography from the perspective of the author’s text on Pospolite Baroque

Abstract: This study aims to explore the narrative of "Pospolite Baroque" through the prism of the (auto)biography of the prominent Ukrainian thinker, scholar, writer, Doctor of Philological Sciences, and professor V. P. Petrov (Domontovych) (1894-1969), which he incorporated into his literary work "Bolotyana Lukroza" according to his authorial style, and to determine the influence of Pospolite Baroque on the author. The methodological foundations of this research are based on V. P. Petrov’s (Domontovych’s) historiosophical concept. The scientific novelty of this work is in the interpretation, through the prism of V. Petrov’s (auto)biography, of the Hetmanate traditions preservation phenomenon in the routine life of the peasants of Baryshivka and other villages in 1921-1923 as his scientific and cultural discovery, which he called "Pospolite Baroque". This research explores the scientific text on Pospolite Baroque at the intersection of various humanities. The methodological basis of the study is rooted in V. Petrov’s his toriosophical concept. It has been demonstrated that Pospolite Baroque is an integral component of the baroque, encompassing V. Petrov’s combination of the material, socio-economic dimension of the lower strata of Ukrainian society – the common Cossacks – and the cultural-artistic dimension of the upper strata – the Cossack elite and higher clergy. The influence of Pospolite Baroque on the author is also shown. Conclusions. The narrative of "Pospolite Baroque" is considered a culturological text. V. P. Petrov’s scientific discovery of Pospolite Baroque reflects the characteristics of his personality, such as analytical thinking, scientific observance, intellect, and systematic thinking. Pospolite Baroque, as a part of the baroque, delves deeper into contemporary understandings of baroque content. The vivid example of Pospolite Baroque, represented by the peasants of Baryshivka from 1920 to 1923, had a positive impact on the life and creativity of the scholar, fueling his incredible productivity and his scientific aspiration for synthesis. The influence of Pospolite Baroque stimulated V. P. Petrov (Domontovych) to create a significant and unparalleled intellectual legacy, which remains insufficiently explored and discovered, just like his biography.
