Public scientific associations and the relay of generations in nationwide socio-humanitarians in the era of the Ukrainian national revival

Section: Shevchenko Scientific Society in terms of biography (to the 150th anniversary of its foundation)

Abstract: The purpose of the study is to outline, from the standpoint of studying the collective biography of generations of Ukrainian scientists in the field of social and humanitarian sciences, the modern vision of the place, role and significance of public scientific associations in the formation and evolution of the national scientific community, the formation and transformation of its intellectual traditions. The scientific novelty consists in a purposeful appeal to the analysis of historical experience and stages of the consolidation of efforts of Ukrainian scientists of different generations on the basis of public cooperation – around scientific and educational societies, various formalized and informal scientific centers and communication platforms. The research is aimed at substantiating a deeper understanding of the fact that it is precisely the intellectual space formed by public scientific organizations that Ukrainian humanitarianism owes in many respects the development of creative forms of cooperation among scientists of different age groups, their ideological and professional growth, the expansion of the problem-thematic range of research, and the elevation of their methodological level, and at the sametime the development and transformation of the experience of self-organization of the scientific community in the development of domestic science as a social institution. The methodological foundations of the research are based on the complex use of the principles of historicism, civilizational, sociocultural, generational and systemic approaches, the use of methods of historiographical analysis and synthesis, the analysis of the development of the domestic scientific community, in particular, in the aspects of scientific and informational tasks of biographers. Conclusions. The history of the development of domestic socio-humanitarian studies convincingly testifies to the primary role in the formation and successful functioning of the scientific community of public scientific organizations, free from irresistible administrative interference of the authorities in their activities, determination of the general direction and topics of scientific research. It is these principles that still best meet the needs of the internal self-organization of the scientific environment, the development of effective communications between representatives of different generations of scientists, ensuring the freedom of scientific creativity, the establishment of democratic norms and the principles of joint work. This is a guarantee of free determination by the scientific community of priority research tasks, concentration of scientists’ efforts on their successful solution, obtaining really important results for society. An indispensable condition for this should be the guiding role of leading scientists in the activities of public scientific organizations, who, thanks to the first-rate results of their scientific work, a deep vision of research tasks, and the acquired indisputable authority among scientists, are able to unite the scientific community and direct its activities. The experience gained fully retains its significance in modern conditions, it should be the basis for solving the tasks facing modern Ukrainian socio-humanitarianism.

Keywords: Ukrainian national revival, socio-humanitarianism, public scientific associations, scientific societies, biography, collective portrait of generations of scientists, traditions and continuity in the scientific field.
