Maliuta Olga Builders of Ukrainian Statehood and the Shevchenko Scientific Society in international cooperation and socio-political contacts (the last quarter of the 19th – the first quarter of the 20th centuries)Section: History and culture through the prism of biographical study Abstract: The purpose of the study is to investigate the international cooperation and socio-political contacts of the Shevchenko Scientific Society (last quarter of the 19th – first quarter of the 20th century). The research is related to the analysis of unpublished archival and written narrative sources published in the periodicals “Notes of the National Scientific Society” and “Chronicles of the National Scientific Society” of the period 1893–1921 on international cooperation and socio-political contacts of the National Scientific Society. The research methodology is based on the principles of historicism, objectivity, and general historical methods, such as problematic-chronological, retrospective, and biographical. The scientific novelty of the worklies in the study of a new topic that has not been studied in historiography. The contribution analysed of the founders and members of the Scientific Society to the Ukrainian statehood and the development of science. The biographies of the members of the Shevchenko Scientific Society are studied, the role of statesment in the development to the scientific community and the scientific field, and their contribution to the Ukrainian statehood are determined. An important addition to the materials of the publications “Notes of the National Academy of Sciences” and “Chronicles of the National Academy of Sciences” are archival materials. It has been determined that the achievements of many scientists who were members of the National Academy of Sciences are of the world importance. This allowed them to successfully represent the initiatives of the Ukrainian people in the politics of different countries of the world. Conclusions. In unpublished archival and published materials, there is evidence that the members of the Scientific Society became active builders of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, the role of which played for a longer time by the Shevchenko Scientific Society. The influence determined of their scientific achievements on political life and Ukrainian statebuilding in the first quarter of the twentieth century.
