“Ukrainian National Biographical Archive” as a tool for combining biographical documents and materials about Ukrainian public personalities

Abstract: The purpose of this article is to highlight the current state and technological capabilities of “Ukrainian National Biographical Archive” as follows: to reflect the processes of its formation; to present the strong holds of accumulating digital versions of biographical documents and information materials about national public personalities from various storage locations within the bibliographic resource; to outline the demand for cooperation within the course of resource formation jointly with involved parties. The research methodology is based on the source-learning method, general scientific methods of analysis and generalization of the milestones for compiling biographical resource. Scientific innovation.The article covers certain technological features of the formation of a bibliographic resource, which provide opportunities for the combination and concentration of biographical documents and information materials about public personalities within “Ukrainian National Biographical Archive”. Conclusions. The initial stage of the formation of the electronic version of “Ukrainian National Biographical Archive” was carried out in the Institute of Biographical Research of V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine. It includes the software development, technological processes working-out, ranging of sources database, mostlocal encyclopedic references and other publications were processed as well, the Register of names App was also completed. Presently the systematic number-wise and content-wise improvement is on the way along with replenishment of bibliographic information as a digital version. Nowadays, in Ukraine historical and biographical information materials are actively drafted and published, compiled thematic, branch, and local history electronic resources with biographical information; cooperation with libraries, archives, museums, R and D institutions, higher education institutions, public organizations and individual researchers in matters of compiling of a consolidated information resource “Ukrainian National Biographical Archive” acquires urgent importance; conditions have been created for the transition to the 2nd stage of compilation of “Ukrainian National Biographical Archive” – filling its content with biographical information materials drafted in other centers in digital version, what will qualitatively change the content of the resource and significantly expand the volume of information arrays accumulated within the process of its development; this work requires significant managerial, scientific and methodological support along with versatile support, establishing a dialogue between the Institute of Biographical Research of V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine and related institutions and individual researchers; cooperation should be carried out on the basis of mutually signed cooperation agreements, implementation of joint R and D and informational projects, working out mutual links to resources, organization of events for the experience and information exchange, staff training, etc.
