Biography in the intellectual and spiritual culture of modern Ukraine

Section: Theory and methodology of modern biography

Abstract: The purpose of the study is to outline changes in the place, role and meaning of biography in the intellectual and spiritual life of Ukrainian society at the current stage, in the conditions of its struggle for the freedom and independence of the Motherland. The methodological foundations of the research are based on the complex use of methods of historiographical and scientific analysis and synthesis, the correlation of the achievements of domestic biography with the objective needs of theoretical, methodological and methodological support for the further development of biographical research and the dissemination of biographical knowledge. Scientific novelty consists infocusing attention on fundamental changes, new trends and phenomena takingplace in the development of biographical research and information in our time. Special emphasis is placed on the issues of changing the place, meaning and tasks of biographical research in the conditions of the struggle of the Ukrainian people against Russian aggression. Conclusions. In modern conditions, public interest in national biography is noticeably growing due to the general rise in the educational and cultural level of the population, and due to a noticeable change in the intellectual and spiritual needs of Ukrainians, due to their desire to develop a spiritual dialogue with their predecessors and contemporaries, activeuse of their human experience, moral guidelines and principles, understanding the realities of their path, achievements, tragedies and heartaches in the process of fighting against tough challenges of fate, personal growth, self-affirmation in life, realization of one’s own creative potential. The drama of the war eventsfur ther strengthened the role of biographical knowledge as a factor in the national self-awareness of Ukrainians, patriotic social cohesion, psychological help and support for the individual, and preservation of the humanistic ideals of the Ukrainian world in difficult conditions. Changes in public demandsled to significant shifts in the problem-thematic orientation of biographical literature and information, the evolution of their genres, the enrichment of the creative arsenal of biographical writing, the use of the latest forms and methods of constructing biographical narratives, means of biographical writing, and communication algorithms between researchers and publishers developed by European and world humanitarianism, employees of the library and information sphere and target reader/user audiences. These processes require in-depth theoretical and methodological developments aimed at effective support of new phenomena and trends in the development of Ukrainian biography.
