Pupils of Mykhailo Hrushevsky in the perception of Ivan Krypiakevych (through the prism of sources of personal origin)

Abstract: The purpose of the article: to highlight the intellectual and psychological portraits of the representatives of the Galician historical school in the context of the era through the prism of the sources of the personal origin of I. Krypiakevych. The research methodology is based on the principles of historicism, objectivity, as well as on general historical methods – biographical, chronological, retrospective, problem-thematic. Scientific novelty consists in the complex analysis of the elements of special approach of I. Krypiakevych, primarily of a memoir material (often published by us), on the basis of which images of prominent historians are highlighted in everyday and professional life, their perception by those around them, and their self-positioning in the intellectual environment of the time were highlighted. The special value of I. Krypiakevych’s testimony lies in the fact that it is, in fact, “internal information” obtained from the middle of the described environment, available to the author as a representative of the school under consideration by him. Relevance. For the development of biographical studies, it is difficult to overestimate the informative value of the authentic reports of I. Krypiakevych, which highlight the human qualities of representatives of the Lviv historical school, their appearance, style of communication with others, and life circumstances. This information helps to feel the spirit of the era – to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Galicia in the first half of the 20th century. The expansion of the involved material has cognitive, didactic value for the study of the traditions of the scientific corporation, will contribute to the compilation of a collective prosopographical portrait of the representatives of the Galician historical school. Conclusions. The collected information allows you to “revive” and personify the history of historical science. The historian’s view captured the most valuable for posterity for a better description of his fellow students of the Hrushevsky school. As a specialist, he focused attention on professional qualities, gave a historiographic assessment of their creativity. Scientific projects of the historical school, personal intellectual searches and aspirations of its adherents were reflected in the analyzed sources. Through the idea of friends, the scale of I. Krypiakevych’s figure and their influence on himemerges.
