Underground library in the memoirs of the tsarist government fighters in Kherson (late nineteenth – early twentieth centuries).

Section: History and culture through the prism of biographical study

Abstract: The article is devoted to little-known problem of forming an underground library in Kherson and its operation in the working environment. Information potential of the memories is considered as a historical source for the study of regional socio-cultural history and different ways of its interpretation. On the basis of the identified and analyzed archival documents a conclusion was drawn about the influence of the personality of the library founder Vladimir Sergeev and illegal literature on his sons, who were active participants in the struggle against imperial power.
