Editorial and publishing activity of Petro Volyniak

Abstract: In the article on base of memories of Dmytro Kyslytsia, F. Lukiianovich, M. Mogylnytskyy, Vadym Svarog, Sergiy Domazar, works on Ukrainian Emigration history and diasporas press is explored specific of editorial and publishingactivity of Petro Volyniak (pseudonym Petro Kuzmovych Chechet (1907–1969)), which has evolved after World War II in emigration. It is analyzed the Austrian period (1945–1948) – functioning in Salzburg of the book-journal publishing house "New Days", where the daily newspaper "Last News", the weekly newspaper "New Days", the magazine "Litavry", the scout fortnightly newspaper "New Way", literary and artistic and scientific collection "Kerma", as well as books of Diaspora and continental Ukraine were published. The active editorial and publishing activities of Petro Volyniak in Toronto are highlighted, including the restoration of the "New Days" publishing house from 1950, where the universal journal of the same name, the monthly newspaper for children "Sunflower", and book production were published by him. The appendices reproduce a list of books of the Austrian and Canadian periodicals from the"New Days". Particular attention is paid to the rubric of the universal month "New Days". The role of the permanent sections that provided an open dialogue with the editor ("Our correspondence", "Readers write", "Posts", "Correspondence", "Letters to the editorial office") was singled out. It is focused on increasing the volume of commercial advertising and the role of social advertising. It is emphasized that "Sunflower" is an edition that provided Christian-religious, national-patriotic, ethical and aesthetic education. An analysis of the content of the journals, edited and published by Petro Volyniak ("New Days" (1950–1969) and "Sunflower" (1956–1961)), testifies to their high professional level and the Ukrainian-centric position of editor Petro Volyniak.
